Sim Default Replacement Eyes
I have been testing out some Maxis-style default replacement eyes for my sims for a while, and I think I've narrowed it down to two options, but I still have issues with both sets and can't decide. I'd love some feedback, oh gentle simmers.
I'm trying to decide between Lyran's eyes and these maxis-like eyes by garnetrising on MTS2 as my default replacements. I love the look of Lyran's eyes - the bright highlights and detail give them some life, and they remain believable for the Sims world. I won't be changing the skins, and I usually try to keep hair downloads matching the Maxis colours, so I want  cartoony  sim-like eyes with just a little more life in them.

A few familiar faces will help to illustrate the differences:

Verdict: I'm not 100% satisfied with either version. Lyran's dark blue is a tad too light, or at least there is not enough contrast between that and the light blue. The other version is somewhat too cobalt blue for my tastes, though I could live with it.

Verdict: I don't like how Lyran's green is more of an olive green, even thought they have a nice sparkle in them. The other eyes don't clash with Johnny's skin quite so much, so they have the advantage for me. Of course, this isn't a problem for "normal" skinned sims (Sorry, Johnny! You know I mean non-alien).

Verdict: I like both, since they are darker than Maxis eyes (brown eyes should be dark in my opinion). Lyran's have more life in them. The other eyes give a sort of doe-eyed look, which works for Nervous, but maybe not so much the other brown-eyed sims. Hmm... are there even any others in Strangetown? Maybe just Olive...

I've already switched to Pixel and Bean's alien defaults. I love them. Thanks, Pixel!

I'd love to hear some other opinions on default replacement eyes. Have I missed some potential options? My main problem with the vast majority of Maxis-style eyes out there is that they are all too light. Usually, I see little difference between light blue, dark blue, and grey, and the browns are much too wimpy for me. I like them deep and strong, like a nice black cup of coffee.

Overall, the first choice for each color are the one's I'd pick. I really like the first green over the second green. It stands out nicely from the green alien skin. I like the "shine dots" better on the first choices, too. The second choices have a more triangular "dot" which isn't cartoony enough (I agree, I like my sims cartoony, too).

(I'm going to add you to my friends list, if you don't mind. I'm interested in seeing your strangetown stories--I loves me some strangetown--especially the adorable Curious brothers and Nervous).

Yes, I agree about the highlights on Lyran's eyes being the better of the two. The others are just lacking that extra bit of life, and they really aren't as cartoony. The second eyes make the sims seems all dreamy-eyed, like they are lost in thought - great sometimes, but not always. I've been leaning towards the Lyran eyes anyway, so thanks for the input.

Thanks for adding me to your friends list! I certainly appreciate having another Strangetown fan around. I'm going to add you back.

Ripp! ^_^ *cuddles him*

What is the second set of eyes?

I do like the dark blue of the second set better; I'm with you in that I like more contrast between the two blues. I keep thinking should learn to make my own defaults. Then I can make a default set from Lyran's assortment.

One of the nice things about Lyran is the large collection of contacts. She has a few different green contacts that would look nice on Johnny. That hair looks great on him, by the way. I'm trying to remember what hair he has originally, and can't!

Your screenshots are so nice and clean! :)

D'oh! Now I see that you put a link to the second set of eyes... ignore the question. ^_^;

P.S. Lyran's contacts are in the makeup section.

P.P.S. Thanks for the compliment about my alien eyes! ^_^

You're welcome! You've made the aliens very happy. :)

I so *heart* Ripp. You're in good company here.

It's funny that you mentioned the Lyran contacts, because I've downloaded them out since I posted this. I may stick with Lyran's default set and use the contacts for individual sims that I'm not 100% satisfied with. It's only natural to have more than 5 eye colours in town, anyway. Strangetown's not that inbred (yet).

I'd love to see another default set made from Lyran eyes! Once eyes are converted to defaults, you can mix and match them, right? The garnetrising set had three choices for brown - I used the darkest, of course. I really do think that the contrast between the blues is key - otherwise, what's the difference between them? Now, dark blue being genetically dominant is a whole other complaint... heheh.

Johnny's original hair is the skater-style hair that is shaved on the side with a long angled layer over one eye (I just love how he has skater hair, yet skateboards don't even exist - what a poser!). This new hair seems like a natural progression from that style to me. It suits him better as an adult too. I love that crazy windblown hair that came with Nightlife!

Thanks for the compliment on the screenshots, though I guess my computer should have most of the credit! :)
