Pollination Technician woes
Well, I'm not sure what I've done, but I've really gone and done it now.

I've been planning to use fwiffo's Multiple Pollination Technicians from MTS2 in my Strangetown, for the added genetic variety this gives alien children (I don't want them all to be related). Of course, I still quite like the original PT, and was hoping the use a mix of both. I'm getting the impression that this won't work so well.

I have read that the children of the default PT will retain him in their family tree if the replacement PTs are added, and this seems to be true. However, I added the PTs first, created an alien child (Jayne), and then removed them again before Pascal and Vidcund had their babies (I wanted to be old school and have them both have children with the default PT). That worked fine, but now the first child, Jayne, has no pollinator at all in her family tree, just the father. This didn't change when I re-added the replacement PTs.

Jayne's pollinator was PT #14, I believe (the redhead). Obviously, I should have wrote that down.

I've also noticed that Jayne's eyes are now no longer the replacement alien eyes that I'm using and are showing as the default Maxis alien eyes, while all other aliens in town are showing the replacements. Ummm, I have no explanation for that. At all. Anyone?

I have also added the alien eye/hidden skin fix that pixel and bean posted, if that has any significance to the eye problem.

I have sent a message to the creator of the multiple PTs, so hopefully that will shed some light, but in the meantime, I would love to hear suggestions and possible explanations, if you have them! I'm mostly concerned that this might affect Jayne's genetics. I assume that she will use her father's recessive genes, but will her own alien genes even be passed on?

I appreciate any help I can get with this.

Well, after all that, you deserve a preview of the little darling. She's featured in the prologue to my Strangetown tale, which should be on the way soon, so it's not that much of a spoiler. I present to you... Ms. Jayne Doe.

Do you have BV? I heard that the replacement PT were broken in BV but it was a passing comment and they didn't elaborate.

Oh, that's a good point, but I haven't installed BV yet (I'm a little put off by all the issues with that EP, so I'm waiting for further patches). So that's not it. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

shes cute!!!

Oh, thank you! :) I'm glad you like her. She has really extreme features.

Oh she is adorable! ^_^

You mentioned a problem with Jayne's eyes returning to the Maxis defaults. Did it start when she became a teen? There is some Maxis glitch that sometimes causes the teen alien eyes to revert to the Maxis eyes. I don't know how to fix it, so I put contacts on my teen aliens. Since you're using my eyes, you can get contacts to match... Thank you for using them, I'm always amazed that other people like them. ^_^

The problem with the family tree is weird. Though I remember there was a previous EP that messed up alien family trees. University? Nightlife? One of those two, I think. I don't remember if there was a fix, sorry...

Thank you.

I've already used your contacts on Jayne as a temporary fix. Will they become the replacement eyes again when she reaches adulthood? I haven't heard about the teen alien issue. I hope that's a separate problem. I really like using your eyes, because I definitely want them cartoony and solid black. I enjoy the shape that you used for the light reflection - kinda whimsical, kinda planetary.

I know that you use the same replacement PTs in your game. I guess that you have never attempted to revert back to the previous PT? I did hear about that issue that came with Nightlife (I believe that was the EP) where all aliens were born this way, so hopefully it isn't too tragic for the genetics. When Maxis did this, the intention was to make the alien hybrids able to interbreed. Of course, the mutiple PTs would be a better solution. I wish Maxis had set it up that way from the beginning. Now I'm torn between the default classic alien and having genetic variety. Have you ever looked back once you added those replacement PTs?

I'm glad you like Jayne. She has a very specific role to play in my story, but she's really won me over as a character too, which is nice. Gotta love those extreme alien personalities! ^_^ She inherited most of her looks (aside from the ears, eyes, and perhaps part of her face structure) from her sim "mother", a bodyshop creation.

I suck. I should have remembered what Mme. Ugly said -- about pulling just the abduction part of the hack. It's been about a year since I had that part of the hack in my game. I removed it for my Uglacy, since the rules would only allow alien children if they were from the Maxis pollinator. Then I never put it back. But I still have the Multi-PTs in my game (and clone them freely in Body Shop to make new aliens.)

I believe Jayne's eyes will revert back at adulthood. Mine always have. I think it's a separate problem, yeah -- the game is so full of them. It can be really frustrating.

Jayne, Jayne... so cute... and yes, extreme personalities are so great! That's the main reason I love my aliens. Besides their beautiful minty skin. ^_^

I'll remove the contacts to check once she hits adulthood. Silly game.

You can't fully tell in that shot, at that age, but Jayne has killer eyebrows. People complain about the genetics in Strangetown, and yet here I am adding more extreme genetics. Those eyebrows are great, though a bit masculine. I laugh in the face of ugly.

I think Jayne's personality is a neat, outgoing, lazy, serious, nice blend. I'll post her exact stats later. I'm going to do a roundup of the Strangetown stats for my own reference, and so we can all refer to it as needed.

I know I'm late offering this (vacation and all) but for the multiple PT hack, I leave the PT files in my folder but just yank the abduction part of the hack. That way the family trees will still show the correct replacement pollinator as the parent but if you go to have another abduction, it will be from the maxis pollinator. I only put the "multiple" hack in when I'm going to use it. So far, this has worked for me. I've used the replacement pollinators a four times in Nocheat and all the family trees are fine. I've also had maxis pollinations and their fine, too.

As for the weirdness with maxis switching their mind and giving us multiple default pollinators on one expansion etc, it makes things more interesting. In fact, that's why I chose Angus Khillian for my cross over between Nocheat and Peculiar. He's the ONLY maxis alien in Nocheat that's the product of a half alien (so his grandfather was abducted, resulting in his father who was in turn abducted--something that you can't get without a cheat in post Nightlife games--well, you can get the abduction, but not a pregnancy--I performed a test a while back http://madame-ugly.livejournal.com/129979.html).

Wow, this is extremely helpful, and worth waiting for! Thanks so much. So, I just remove the Multi_Pollination_Technician.package each time I want to use the default PT and then replace it for the multiple PTs. That should be easy enough.

Ah, so Angus Khillian is 3/4 alien, is he? That's interesting. He certainly looks very alien.

As for Jayne, I don't quite know how this will affect her genetics, but I think things will work out fine as is. I'll risk it, anyway. At least the future aliens will have normal family trees.

Oh yes, there WILL be aliens...

It's been a while since I downloaded it, but I think the whole download comes with the "hack" (replacement pollinator) and the telescope(s) and four "sim" files (one each for the new pollinators). You can leave the "sim" files in your downloads forever (to preserve family trees). I just yank all the other files ("hack" and "telescopes").

I suppose if you only wanted to use certain new pollinators, you could select the ones you want and leave the undesirable ones out. I like all four, so I use all four. It's fun to see what you'll get.

I agree. I love the surprise. I really like how the new PTs are half male and half female too. I can use that to supports my idea about their gender/sexual mutability.

I can't wait till you start sharing this with the world. :)

Oh, me too. I'm chomping at the bit here. My main hold up now is getting enough pics of the Grunts, Johnny, and Ophelia while they are still teens to support my backstory. I had to turn off the aging for a bit to manage it. I'm about ready to move on, but they won't ever be teens again. *sigh* I feel like a desperate parent, unable to let go. I have enough photos of Ripp alone to fill several photo albums. ^_^
